A self-guided tour through our museum illustrates the history of the healing springs and the founding of our city. Permanent and temporary exhibits depict the indigenous people who first discovered the springs, the hardships of pioneer life, the Victorian renaissance that transformed Eureka Springs into a world-renowned health resort, and the arts and counter-culture movement that shaped us into the “town where misfits fit."
For November 2023, the museum will be showcasing the fantastically colorful works of Judy Hudson as our gift shop Artist of the Month! Judy works in several different mediums, and imbues her work with intense explosions of color and textures. She will be on site for a special artist meet and greet on the afternoon of Friday, November 10 from 2pm to 4pm, where guests can learn more about her inspirations and techniques.
This fun five-hour dancing marathon will take place in the “Gem" – which is the lower level of the Eureka Springs City Auditorium at 36 S. Main Street. We are excited to bring back some dancing traditions to this historic space where local sock hops and barefoot balls were once held! Guests can social dance to their favorite tunes or sign up to compete for the full five-hour stretch in the ultimate dance marathon. Buy your tickets now!
To compliment the inaugural Louis and Elsie “Freunds Day", the Eureka Springs Historical Museum is partnering with the Eureka Springs Carnegie Public Library to present “The American Scene", an original audio essay recorded by Louis Freund in January 1987. The museum will also be hosting a special on-site exhibit of artwork and artifacts relating to the Freunds from July 6 to September 5.
As a tribute to the historic “Crazy Quilt” tradition of the Ozarks, and a compliment to the colorful May Festival of the Arts in Eureka Springs, local artists were invited to create a 6×6 canvas artwork for display in a quilt-like grid. Artists were encouraged to draw, paint, sew, collage, texture, and embellish their canvas as a response to the theme “Eureka Springs – you fit here”. Each canvas will be auctioned individually as a fundraiser for the museum.
Join us for this year's “Voices from Eureka's Silent City" lantern-guided cemetery tours in October! This popular annual museum fundraiser is a unique evening experience, where actors portray the colorful characters from our city's past while guiding you through the historic city cemetery and sharing the stories of their lives and times. The guided tours last about an hour and start at approximately every 20 minutes from 5:30pm to 8:30pm with a free trolley ride to the cemetery.
